I have to be patient until November. I’m going to try a few more of these longer 1000-2000 word stories

Sicilia! Non c'é rimedio mai. Exquisite writing, Barrie! Beautiful metaphors. For the sequel, may I suggest Jim Cumming's "Cool Like Casali." A perfect match! They will never understand that there is no end to vendetta. It is a way of life. https://substack.com/@jimcummings5251/p-142815545

Some great turns of phrase. Next time I'm in a mood I'll hide it with a fedora!

Really good to re-read this, Barrie. Not sure where the differences lie, but it’s beautifully done.

Literally it was taking words out, sharpening the phrasing. Maybe it’s good if you can’t see the joins. Thanks for the kind words.

I remember the first time I read this I was impressed… now I am more so - this flows beautifully… probably much like the red on the tablecloth!

Good luck with the competition Barrie… I’ve everything crossed for you.

That’s so kind, Susie. I am super-impatient to share my other entry, which even I really like, but I’m going to try and hold out until November when the first round of judging is done. I’ll just have to write some new stuff.

So many gems in this story, but “A few weeks later the girl left in the back seat of the priest’s car, the exhaust groaning at the shame of it.” is a shining jewel of micro fiction, a whole story in 23 words! Thank you for sharing and good luck!
