Both excellent, but love that the bikers might meet their match with the new leather clad judge!

Aw, thank you so much for reading, Debs. I've been feeling a little 'stifled', the words not really flowing; other things taking centre stage. But I always miss the words; nice to see them back, in bite size chunks. B

The second one is so good! First one too, but that second one is something else.

Thank you SO much, Andrei. I had a sense that I'd 'warmed up'. I needed the 50-word to break through a writing impasse I'd been feeling. No surprise, the second one is the idea that popped up straight away from the prompt and the words flowed easily. A bit of editing for sharpness and there it was. That's such an encouragement to hear that it landed. B

Good to read you are through your temporary impasse. I tend to find I'm wanting to write long when trying to keep things short. And wanting to keep short when aiming for something more wide-reaching and in-depth. Enjoyed both of these.

Very kind, Matt. I’ve been relishing (admiring) your fragments. Such a lovely way of keeping the pot boiling. I’m on the cusp of the first anniversary of this wee writing project so hoping to stir myself into some more regular offerings. I have a notion to unearth some longer pieces of fiction from wherever they are hiding!

Wow! Both of these are beautifully constructed, complete stories - succinct and clean, yet detailed, and so engaging! Perfect concluding lines in both. I loved this image: "She paused briefly, locking each leering face in her memory." It looks easy to write these, but it is not. We can learn from these models. Thank you

My goodness, that means so much. What an encouragement at a time when I need it most. Thank you for taking the time to read, Sharron, and for the generosity of your kind words. Very touched.

I see a lot of sophomoric writing on Substack ( some of it my own). Your writing is not that. Your stories are a pleasure, a balm to my old tired eyes.

These are two splendid stories. Fifty and one-hundred word stories are the poetry of our age.

Time seems to be precious everywhere right now… I gather jumbled words while I’m attending to the necessities but exhaustion is no friend of writing no matter how keen I am to un jumble them when I’m finally seated…

These are both punch line perfection Barrie… I loved them both immensely !

Have a great week, if you have a forecast like us you should have lots of wonderful downtime for writing more!

Feeling your exhaustion … mine is temporary as I catch up on myself after some hefty cycling miles. But the writing bug has caught up with me and words (and, just as importantly) ideas are coming to me. Don’t forget ‘snippets’ as an option. Literally, one line to accompany your astonishing photos can be enough. You have photos aplenty, and lines already buried in longer pieces you’ve published before. Quote yourself and who knows the restorative effect that’ll have for you and others. Thank you for the kind encouragement for my words.
