Goodness, I’m completely out of breath...

Masterful Barrie, the pace, the scents, the vivid descriptions... I was entirely transported, could feel the roof tiles slipping and the soft cushioned landing too.

And next week, will you return to Rothwells?

Ah, I have a few threads to follow now. Art, photography, maps ... short, long ... I'm warming up, I think, for a good go at my dystopian piece. We're back in UK for a couple of weeks in November so beginning of December for the serious business of a second draft. Until then, these lighter touch pieces. Thank you so much for the kind encouragement, Susie. Much appreciated. A return visit is a must.

The next time I deckle tear a map and offer it to my sewing machine, I’ll stop a while and dream…

Well now, this was an exciting escapade! I was instantly drawn into the adventure - full of twists and turns. Love the name of the bookshop 😂

So enjoying your writing recently, Barrie.

"His eyes are the colour of lapis lazuli from Badakhshan traded for gold in the bazaars of Kabul."

A man who's seen more than he relays was the first thought that came into mind.

Exceptional writing B.

That's so very kind ... and what a welcome connection - missing the Twitter crowd (but not the Twitter and its Head Twit). So lovely to see you here

I've been keeping up with the weekly. Excellent work as always.

You're wise staying off twitter at present. The discourse has amped up.

I keep looking in on here.

Trying to work my way around the platform and understand it.

If you guys are on bluesky, would appreciate an invite if you have spares. I'm told it's picking up.

Still need to book a phonecall with you at some point re. ✍️

We haven't tried BlueSky - I'll keep an ear out for invites.

I deleted our Twitter completely after a 2-month sabbatical. We have such a lovely crowd with the newsletter and Substack is a very encouraging community so there's more than enough engagement with that and the occasional post to Instagram.

Would love to have a chat. I have plenty of time the week beginning 6 Nov (up to and including 9th) before we head back to UK for some squishes with the grandkids. We can e-mail to and from to fix on timings if that would suit? B

I can understand that.

Substack does seem like there's a fab community and people genuinely seem to be engaged. I've just got to figure it out.

Bluesky. I'd appreciate that.

I'm not quite prepared to give up the news cycle yet, although, if I'm perfectly honest, I'm spending less time on the socials and spending more time working on something a bit mors personal. Curiously, inspired by ... twitter 🤷🏽😄

Let's catch up over email.

Maybe aim for after you guys return from spending time with those two adorable grandchildren of yours ?

🙏🏽
